Achievements

  • Law Enforcement: Considerable experience in promoting and administrating security, property protection civil process, and county and municipal law enforcement programs

  • Interpreted general and specialized orders and coordinated patrols of assigned areas to prevent crime and disturbance of peace as well as apprehend violators

  • Warned or arrested persons violating laws and issued tickets to motor vehicle violators, including DWI (Driving While under the Influence) offenders

  • Responded to and/or resolved situations involving domestic disturbances and injuries resulting from drug and alcohol abuse

  • Transportation of inmates to and from county and state detention facilities

  • Removed victims from scenes of accidents and catastrophes, and have proactively investigated the potential of these events happening again- most notably was working in the town of Bound Brook, N.J. following the devastation of Hurricane Floyd in 1999, Hurricane Irene in 2011 and Super Storm Sandy in 2012

  • Assigned to Ground Zero in NYC following the 9/11/01 Terrorist Attacks, and traveled to Louisiana in September 2005 for 2 weeks on a SRT Search & Rescue Operation in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina

  • Graduated Red Cross class on emergency medical treatment for police canines

  • Altering my appearance to assist the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force in an undercover capacity from August 2001 thru June 2002 to infiltrate the distribution of Controlled Dangerous Substances (narcotics) in our communities

  • One of my more higher risk undercover operations (State vs. Ogandoovalle) was published in the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Law Enforcement Newsletter (Fall 2004 Edition, Volume 7, No.1) as a “Verdict of Interest”throughout the State of New Jersey

  • Including my time with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force I have taken part in approx. 550 narcotic investigations

  • To this day I still have a Confidential Informant base in place and recently in May 2004, one of these informants gave me information that led to the arrest of Minor Cespedes in Newark, NJ. Minor Cespedes, a few weeks earlier was profiled in the Courier-News as one of Somerset County’s Most Wanted Fugitives

  • Have done out of state Ride-A-Long tours of duty with the Phoenix Police Department in August 2001, the New York Police Department in December 2001, the Denver Police Department in September 2004, New Orleans Police Department in September 2005, the Seattle Police Department in September 2006, the Hampton Virginia Police Department in July 2009 and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona in 2014

  • Investigation: Notable experience in coordinating procedures concerned with the surveillance, detection, capture, and transportation of perpetrators and assisting with administrative concerns

  • Participated in investigations of known or suspected criminals, investigating habits, associates, aliases, and other personal information about suspects

  • Examined and preserved crime scenes to gather evidence

  • Identified, located and questioned witnesses and assisted in reconstructing the scene of personal injury/automobile accidents

  • Prepared properly documented reports and testified at trials/administrative hearings on municipal and state levels

  • In 2014 was assigned to the Internal Investigation Unit Support Services: Diversified experience in executing a variety of procedures to maintain or improve the efficiency of law enforcement operations

  • Before my promotion to Sergeant, I functioned as a charge officer in the courthouse, prioritizing and delegating assignments and directing response to identified emergency situations

  • Served as the State Delegate of the Sheriff’s Officers New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 39 from 1999 to 2003 and Alternate State Delegate for Superior Officer’s Lodge 89 from 2003 to 2005

  • Elected President of the Superior Officers F.O.P. Lodge 89 in 2005

  • Certified by the New Jersey State Police in Horizontal Gaze/Nystagmus for conducting DWI Standardized Field Sobriety Testing

  • Certified by New Jersey State Police as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE)

  • Trained in the SCPO policies/procedures for applying for & conducting a D.W.I. checkpoint

  • In February 2004 I was assigned to the Inter-agency Police Task Force (Warren PD/ Bernards PD/ Long Hill PD) which is anti-crime unit that patrols Rt.78

  • In May 2004 I was assigned to oversee the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver Special Response Task Force which searches for and rescues missing persons

  • Certified by the Chesapeake, Virginia Sheriff’s Office as a N.J. State Trainer for the Project Lifesaver program

  • Since June 2003, along with my K-9 partner Dano, we have recovered approx. $750,000 worth of illegal controlled dangerous substances and U.S. Currency

  • Since 2003, I have visited numerous schools with my K-9 partner Dano teaching thousands of children about the dangers of drugs in our communities 

  • I have written a total of three law enforcement/ public safety in-service training courses (2002- High Risk Prisoner Transports, 2004 K-9 Overview/Awareness) for the Somerset County Police Academy and taught these courses several times a year to law enforcement officers all throughout the State of New Jersey.  I also taught a scaled down modified version of both courses in-house to the sheriff’s officers in our office

  • Created an in-service lesson plan for the Somerset County Police Academy on "Project Lifesaver Orientation for Police Officers”

  • Trained in handling numerous departmental finance issues, including ordering/purchasing uniforms & equipment, scheduling in-service training courses for sheriff’s officers, budgeting, annual reports, press releases, grants, etc. 

  • Upgraded and remodeled the Sheriff’s Office Uniform Equipment Room in 2008

  • Established a EMS Operations Office in 2009 to oversee medical supplies for Sheriff’s Office and off-site County Buildings became a N.J. State Police certified K-9 Scent Trainer in 2008
